Spirituality: A long journey invisible to the eye

Spirituality is the inner cleansing of the soul, self-identity, understanding of wisdom, development of good character, increase in good deeds and self-improvement. We will throw light on many aspects of this topic.

Introduction:

Spirituality is a long journey invisible to the eyes in which you gradually get closer to Allah. In this journey one has to face severe difficulties due to one’s desires. You have to continuously fight and subdue the strong attacks of your nafs till your last breath. The better you try, the more you will find peace.

Connection with Islam:

Spirituality has great importance in the religion of Islam, it connects the person who adopts it with his inner world and helps him in becoming a better person. A person creates a separate world within himself where only love, peace and truth exist. It has its roots in worship, tazqiya-e-nafs, and taqwa (fear of Allah). Worship, such as Namaz, Roza, Hajj and Zakat, connects man to his Creator and allows him to realize peace within him.

Tazkiya-e-Nafs means purifying one’s self, so that One can engage in the worship of Allah with more sincerity. This is the journey that takes a person to his true purpose. It is the light that shows the way even in darkness.

Effect of Zikr/Muraqabah (Meditation):

An important aspect of spirituality is Zikr i.e. remembering the names of Allah. Zikr is an action that soothes the heart and refreshes the soul. It is also called Muraqbah or Islamic Meditation.  Through Zikr, man establishes a special relationship with his Allah, which saves him from worldly worries.

Connection with Sufism (Tasawwuf):

Tasawwuf also has a big role in spirituality. Through their teachings, Sufi has shown people the way to love Allah and His Messenger ﷺ.  Deep knowledge of spirituality is hidden in their teachings, which takes a person like Tasawwuf.

Spirituality in Islam is often referred to as Tasawwuf, which is a path by which a person can recognize himself and devote his life to the worship of Allah.

ABOUT US

Effect on Health:

To illustrate Spirituality and health here, consider a man who has been advised by his doctor to consume less salt due to his high blood pressure. However, instead of heeding the physician’s counsel, the man indulges his craving for salt and ends up aggravating his disease. Clearly, this example serves as a reminder that good health and disease prevention requires a concerted effort on multiple fronts, including following one’s healthcare provider’s advice and embracing spirituality.

Connection with Poetry:

Aspects of spirituality are often beautifully presented in Urdu poetry. It talks about Ishq-e-Haqeeqi (true love), which shows true love for Allah and His Messenger ﷺ.  The name of the Islamic scholar Ala Hazrat Imam Ahmed Raza Khan Radi Allahu Anhu, who brought Ishq-e-Haqeeq into the heart on the basis of poetry, is well known throughout the world.  His poetry is famous by the name Hadaiqe Bakhshish.

sukoon paaya hai bekasee ne,

hudood-e-gam se nikal gaya hoon,

   khayaal-e-hazarat jab aa gaya hai,

to girate-girate sambhal gaya hoon.

Wo Sue Lala Zar Phirte Hain,

Tere Din Ae Bahar Phirte Hain,

Haye Ghafil Woh Kya Jagah Hai Jahan

Panch Jate Hain Char Phirte Hain
